HYDROCOIL CEREBRAL ANEURYSM TREATMENT TRIAL

Introduction

Since the introduction of detachable coil technology for the treatment of intracranial aneurysms, the proportion of aneurysms treated by endovascular means has increased to the point that endovascular treatment has become the preferred treatment option for intracranial aneurysms at many institutions.

This prospective, multicenter, randomized trial is currently in progress to evaluate the effectiveness of Hydrogel coils with a direct comparison to non-Hydrogel coils. The trial will determine the long term recanalization and retreatment rates of the Hydrogel vs. non-Hydrogel coils. Clinical and angiographic outcomes with clinical status evaluations will occur immediately post treatment, at 5-7 months, and at 12-18 months.

The HCAT trial will be conducted by Dr. Avery Evans of the University of Virginia as the Primary Investigator. The Core Lab will be Dr. David Kallmes of The Mayo Clinic. This trial will recruit patients from approximately 30 Centers worldwide within 18 months. Data collection and randomization will be through a web based system.

Please Contact Dr. Evans at averyevans@gmail.com with any questions.

We look forward to your participation in this study!
